Backgroud: Lead acetate (Pb) is an oldest and widespread environmental toxicant that led to cumulative injury in humans and all living organisms .Spirulina platensis (SP) is a cyanobacteria with strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hepatoprotective, nephroprotective, growth, productive and reproductive enhancer of animal and poultry. Objective is to investigate the ameliorative effect of Spirulina platensis (SP) against lead induced oxidative damage in broiler chickens. Method : (60) broiler Chicks divided randomly into four equal groups (15 Each).Group 1 act as control given distalled water orally, group 2 given distalled water orally and 3g/kg of diet of SP ,group 3 given 160mg/kg B.wt of Lead acetate, group 4 given 160mg/kg B.wt of lead acetate and 3g/kg diet of SP . Results: significant improvement in some of growth parameters like final body weight in chicks treated with SP and as result significant decrease in FCR. However, a significant decrease in liver function, renal parameters, total Pb residues in muscles, livers and kidneys , oxidative parameters malondialdehyde (MDA), while Superoxide disuutase (SOD) and total antioxidant capacity (TAC) ) show significant increase in there levels. Pathologic analysis of liver and kidneys revealed severe degenerative and necrotic changes in Pb- exposed chicks, which was-ameliorated by supplementation of SP.
